Vickie Lynn Skinner
October 20th, 1953 - July 15th, 2013
11:00 a.m., Monday, July 22, 2013, South Sound Manor Vickie Lynn Skinner Vickie, 59, of Tenino, Washington left us to be with the Lord on July 15, 2013 in Olympia, with her family lovingly embracing her as she walked through the gates of heaven. Vickie was born in Tacoma, Washington on October 20, 1953 to Ronald Bowman and Helen Sampson. She graduated from Washington High School in Tacoma, and chose to start her family with all of the love in her heart. Once her children were older, she chose to be an example for her kids by going back to school to earn her degree at South Puget Sound Community College. One of the many things that Vickie was passionate about was God; she loved her small group Bible study and looked forward to spending time with her family and friends. Vickie’s passion was reading… from romance to religion and everything in between; she could lose herself in a good book and a cup of Tetley Tea. She definitely had the travel bug; some of her favorite memories were traveling to far off places like Scotland with her loving Mom and sister… and no one will ever forget the amazing memories that were created on family trips to Hawaii, Mexico and the Oregon Coast. Visiting her beloved daughter Salina in Hawaii with her loving husband always brought happiness to her heart; the ocean created an inner peace for her. Her “German son” Jan was a blessing in her life; she was thrilled to explore Europe with him and the wonderful Koch family. She was honored to be the President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of Living Water Church. Vickie worked as an Eye Care Technician for Group Health for 20 years and made lifelong friendships that she cherished. When people think of Vickie, some of the first things that pop in their heads is her incredible laugh and the way she could tell a story like no other. Vickie had a soft spot for the laughter of a baby; she would do nearly anything to evoke that magical sound. Good music and dancing were integral parts of her character; she loved dancing to 50s music and she thoroughly enjoyed singing silly songs with her grandchildren. A sparkle lit up in her eyes each time her family was near; the love she had for each of them shone bright. Equality for all was a value set that Vickie instilled in her children, ensuring that they looked out for others and always treated everyone with respect. Seeking peace, Vickie was often sought out for advice to challenging situations and always listened with a careful ear and love in her heart. Vickie was married to the love of her life, Harry, on January 22, 1982, and they were married 31 glorious years. Happiness abounded throughout their many vacations; whether it was a cruise with friends, a Mexican get-away or weekend rendezvous (with or without the kids/grandkids), they made millions of unforgettable memories together. Family functions were always hosted by Vickie and Harry; holidays were always a special time surrounded with love, laughter and a little craziness. Vickie cherished each and every member of her family, which included her friends. Vickie is survived by her loving spouse, Harry; her children, Marshelle Casano, Salina Kincaid, Zachary Skinner, James Skinner, Rachel Hughes (Brian Hughes), Laura Skinner-Sebald (Jake Sebald); her grandchildren, Raeanna Hughes, Chelsey Smith, Anthony Skinner, Cierra Hughes, Mariah Casano, Sofia Skinner, Alexander Skinner, Noah Sebald; her great grandchildren, Warren Hughes and Adrion Cooney; her mother, Helen Sampson; brother, Gary Bowman; sister,Gail Gese (Bob Gese); and countless other family members and friends. Vickie was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Bowman; and her brother, Gordie Bowman. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 12:00 noon at South Sound Manor, 455 North Street SE, Tumwater 98501. Pastor Marv Kasemier of Living Water Fellowship will be officiating. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. at South Sound Manor. A celebration of life will immediately follow the service. Keep the tea kettle on for us; we’ll be coming home with you soon.
