Edwards Memorial Funeral Homes - University Place
Douglas Bryan McLeod
April 5th, 1963 - June 8th, 2015
Douglas Bryan McLeod passed away at home Monday, June 8, 2015. Doug was 52 years old, born April 5th, 1963 in Tacoma and had lived in University Place for the past 17 years. After attending Wilson and Foss High schools, Doug completed an HVAC course at Bates Vocational School. He then worked as a machinist for 15 years until he retired 5 years ago. We cannot even begin to express the sadness of this, yet another tragedy in the family. He is survived by his mother Marlys Griffis, brothers Scott, Randy, Greg McLeod, sister Laurie Duncan, daughter Valerie MacLeod, 2 grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceding Doug in death was his son Brian McLeod, his father Bill and stepfather Glen. Doug enjoyed music, going to concerts, playing his guitar, watching football and other sports on TV, fishing and the outdoors. He is remembered by many as having such a sweet nature, a calm, quiet, good man with a beautiful smile. In happier days Doug and Scott played in a band together, played tennis, golfed and rode their mini bikes that Glen bought them and ever created a big motocross track in our backyard in Tacoma. We enjoyed time at our cabin, a trip to Hawaii, and many other happy memories. Doug also took several other trips by himself to Cabo and Las Vegas. He and his mother went to Georgia to see Brian's graduation from boot camp. In the past few years however Doug grew depressed and Brian's death had an impact that made it worse. Scott, Jera'Le and Marlys tried to get him help from the depression that he was in, unfortunately the efforts were futile. We loved Doug so much and regret that he suffered as he did, and that he found his last years so difficult. We are heartbroken and will miss him. So sorry he couldn't get the help he needed from the mental health care system. We spent this past Easter with Doug on Ruston Way, also celebrating his birthday. Also, Scott, Doug and Marlys walked Ruston Way and talked this past Mother's Day. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 10th at 10:30 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at Noon, hosted by the ladies at Gloria Dei Lutheran church in Tacoma. Please contact Karen Lunquist for information at 564-0857. Pastor Mark Woldseth will be officiating. All are welcome.
