Funeral Alternatives of Washington - Tumwater
David Martin Haigh
May 30th, 1953 - June 10th, 2013
David Martin Haigh May 30, 1953 - June 10, 2013 We lost a true friend with the sudden and untimely passing of Dave Haigh. The youngest of fifteen children raised by Leo and Ethel Haigh in Seattle, Dave attended Assumption School, Bishop Blanchet High School (Class of '71), North Seattle Community College and the University of Washington. Dave worked a variety of jobs, but found his professional calling in finance and accounting in the ten years he worked for North City Lumber in Shoreline, where he progressed from truck driver to accountant. Dave moved on from the lumber business to be one of the first employees at the City of Seattle's Office of Housing, from which he retired earlier this year as a Senior Finance Supervisor after 23 years of service. The biggest change in Dave's life, and the best, was meeting his wife, Barbara, shedding the title of "bachelor" with their marriage in October of 2000. Their life together began in Bothell, where Dave and Barb endured long commutes to work so her children could finish school with their long-time friends. As "empty-nesters," they moved to a home in Seattle's Maple Leaf neighborhood, where Dave took to gardening and cooking the same way he'd once enjoyed softball and golf...with enthusiasm. Just this year, they bought a smaller home in Olympia where they'd hoped to enjoy a less hectic pace of life as relatively young retirees. Dave even got a fishing license and was learning the "hot spots" of some of the nearby lakes. Whether it was due to coming from such a large family, or just because it was the core of his nature, Dave simply enjoyed people. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him. Dave is survived by his wife, Barbara, and her children, Emily and Kyle Wilson. Also surviving Dave are four of his brothers, Jack (Fran) Haigh, Phil Haigh, Ray (Connie) Haigh, and Greg (Sonja) Haigh; and his five sisters, Tess Haigh; Helen Haigh, CSJP; Bea (Dick) Byland; Rose (Don) Obuchowski; and Geri (Lynn) Walker. Dave will also be missed by brothers-in-law, Walton Eder, Kelvin (Jenn) Eder, and Tony Eder; and sister-in-law, Lucy Haigh; and by his nephews, nieces, cousins, and more distant relations too numerous to mention here. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ethel Haigh of Seattle; and by five of his brothers, Steve, Dan, Bill, Jim, and Larry Haigh. Services are scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, June 25, 2013, 1:30 p.m., at St. Michael Parish, 1208 11th Avenue SE, Olympia, WA. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent in memory of our beloved Dave to: http://www.bishopblanchet.org/donation.php, or by mail to Bishop Blanchet High School, In Memory of David Haigh, 8200 Wallingford Ave. N, Seattle, WA 98103. Please leave memories of Dave or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
