Bonnie Jean Robinson
April 22nd, 1946 - August 19th, 2014
Bonnie Jean Robinson-Johnson, 68, died Tuesday, August, 19, 2014 at home with her family by her side. Bonnie was born, April 22, 1946, in Vallejo, California to Ollie Belle Hogan and Charles Robinson who both preceded her in death. In March 1974 she married the love of her life Grady Johnson and had three beautiful children. Following his death she moved to Tacoma, WA in 2009. Bonnie was an avid speller and won many awards in competitions. She enjoyed playing Scrabble, Words with Friends, hiking, gardening, and puzzles. She also spent countless hours volunteering with adult literacy programs in both Vallejo and Tacoma. In addition she was a board member for many years with the Sisters Network (breast cancer group) in Solano County, CA. After working for the Fredric Ozanum Recovery Home from 1987 1994, Bonnie left and started the Ia-Tik Recovery Center which is still in existence today. She wanted to make sure that African Americans had a safe and affordable rehabilitation center to get well. Being clean and sober for 28 years allowed Bonnies sense of humor to shine through and gave her new insight on life. Bonnie said she could not have done it without the help of Alcoholics Anonymous. Her deep commitment to help others, lead her to earn her counselling certification from the California Association of Alcohol Recovery Homes (CAARH). Bonnie fought a long hard battle with lung cancer, but never let it change her spirit. She always kept her beautiful smile and remained positive throughout. Before going home, Bonnie wanted to share this word of advice with others STOP SMOKING! Bonnie is survived by her children Kwame (Wanda), and twins Raschid, and Omentha; six grandchildren Shanae, Tanasia, Ciana, Chayton, Shantel, and Jordan; Siblings James Bass and Jamillah Muhammad. Preceding her in death were her sisters Thedora Hatch and Cassandra Robinson. A home going celebration will take place at Nichiren Shoshu Myoshinji Temple, 2631 Appian Way, Pinole, California 94564 on Saturday, September 13, 2014. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Prince of Peace Baptist Church, 401 Lemon Street, Vallejo, CA 94590. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sisters Network of Solano County.
