Affectionately known as Saint Jude for her self-less acts of kindness and support, Judy was born February 27, 1936 in Spokane, WA. She died peacefully on November 15, 2016 at St. Anthonys Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington. Judy was the fourth child of Robert E. Casey Sr. and Dorothy Arlene (Young) Casey. She grew up in Spokane where she attended St. Patricks Grade School, Holy Names Academy, Sacred Heart School of Nursing (President of her class), and Gonzaga University. During high school at age 15, Judy worked at Shriners Hospital for Children. After graduation in 1957, she worked two years as a Jesuit Volunteer at Copper Valley School in Glennallen, Alaska. She often spoke fondly of her time in Alaska and remained in contact with her friends there over the years. Judy moved to Los Angeles, California and worked as a Registered Nurse at County Hospital. She met her husband Gene A. Ryle and they were married on May 9, 1964. A few years later they adopted their two boys, Keith and Tom. They lived in Manhattan Beach until 1973 when they relocated to Gig Harbor, Washington. They built a lovely home on the water near Raft Island. Judys nursing career continued, retiring from St. Josephs Hospital in 1998 as a rehab Charge Nurse. After retirement she stayed busy working in the yard and reading her bible while enjoying the view of the bay. She also enjoyed annual family get-togethers at Long Lake in Spokane and annual trips to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico each winter. Judy also stayed active volunteering in her community and with St. Nicholas parish in many capacities, including being an active member of the Visitation Guild and delivering the Eucharist to those who couldnt attend mass. A life-long caregiver, Judy always made time to help those in need. It brought her great joy! Judy was a loving wife of 52 years, mother, and grandmother. She touched the lives of many through her words of encouragement, kindness, and helping hand. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with family and friends. Her brother Robert E. Casey Jr., sister Joan A. (Casey) Cook, brother Patrick S. Casey, precede her in death. She is survived by her brother Richard M. Casey, special cousin Carol Bosch, husband Gene Ryle, sons Keith and Tom Ryle, and daughter Dawn Slover. A funeral mass will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor on December 9th at 10:30am. A reception will follow in the church hall. All are welcome to attend this celebration of Judy's life.
