Robert "Rod" Orwin Davidson
November 12th, 1945 - October 21st, 2014
Robert Rod Orwin Davidson, 68, died Oct. 21, 2014 in Tacoma, Washington. Davidson, who was born Nov. 12, 1945 in Shelton, Washington is the son of Patricia Davidson of Ketchikan and the late Wesley Davidson. The Davidson family moved from Vaughn, Washington to Ketchikan in 1954. A Ketchikan High School graduate Davidson earned a degree in forestry from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. He joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS John Adams submarine. Following Navy service he worked as a logger for his father who owned and operated Davidson Logging Company on Prince of Wales Island. He later worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Ketchikan. While in Ketchikan Davidson married Nancy Walsh. The couple moved to Juneau where Davidson continued employment with the U.S. Forest Service. He retired in Shelton. Following divorce he moved to Tacoma, Washington and worked on government fisheries computer contracts for NOAA in Seattle. Rod had an active life according to his family. He was a popular bagpipe player. He owned a floatplane and enjoyed beachcombing and fly fishing. He was active in Boy Scouts of America, Shriners and the Masonic Lodge. His hobbies included scuba diving, flying and fishing in Southeast Alaska lakes. He also liked boating, canoeing, hunting, hiking and photography. He spent many hours working on computers. Davidson was preceded in death by his father, Wesley. He is survived by his mother Patricia; sister Lynda (Bob) Adams of Ketchikan; niece Amy Adams of Scottsdale, Arizona, nephew Mark (Britta) Adams of Ketchikan; great-nephews Taj (Melissa) Hasty who is stationed at U.S. Navy Base in Rota, Spain, Jacob Hasty attending college in Denver, Colorado and Spencer and Wyatt Hasty of Scottsdale; great-nieces Kaitlyn Hasty of Seattle and Anneka Adams of Ketchikan, and great-great-niece Lillian Hasty of Rota. Additionally he is survived by his aunt Peggy (Joe) Dervaes of Vaughn, their children Lisa (Mathew) Mills; Brian (Suz) Dervaes; and Scott Dervaes. Aunt Kathryn (Jim) Arnold of Gig Harbor and son Christopher; Cousins Dale (Alice) Koger of Salem, David (Lynn) Koger of Tacoma; Danny (Phyllis) Koger of Tennessee; David (Marcia) Logan of Port Angeles; Tim (Barbara) Logan of California; Connie (Craig) Chapman of Seattle; Denise (Steve) Dillon of Oregon; Carol (Harold) Winslett of Alabama; and cousins Jerianne, Arlene, and Eileen Gabrielson; Don Gabrielson and Larry Gabrielson of Washington. Uncles Milt Davidson of Steilacoom, Washington and Don-Lee Davidson of Mapleton, Oregon. Nancy Walch remains a great family friend. He is also survived by his special friend Evelyn Nye of Tacoma. A graveside service will be held Saturday November 15 at 1 P.M. at the Vaughn cemetery followed by a memorial service in theWhitmore Room at the Vaughn Civic Center at 2 P.M.
