Michael Joseph Homan
June 19th, 1957 - June 4th, 2016
Michael J. Homan, died peacefully, after a long battle with cancer, in the Franciscan Hospice House on June 4, 2016 in Tacoma, WA at the age of 58. Mike was born on June 19, 1957 in Bismarck, ND to William and Ann Homan (Babel). His children remember him as a kind, intelligent, funny, hardworking and driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. His life was a mixture of hard work, good fun and limitless opportunities. Mike was a jack of all trades and was often found tinkering on various projects. If it needed to be designed, fixed or improved, he was the man to ask. He spent many of his earlier years as an award winning truck driver for SuperValu. He also started one of the first internet provider companies in Bismarck, Grand Central Station. One of his latest achievements was the re-opening of Als Market in Olalla, WA. He turned the store into more than just a quick stop shop. He created a gathering place where the locals go for great food, cold beverages, to sing Karaoke or to partake in playing giant Jenga in the beer garden. He was a dedicated individual who loved his family and friends and will be deeply missed. Mike is survived by his wife, Tetiana; his son, Carter Homan of Mead, Colorado; his daughters, Courtney Homan of Wannaska, Minnesota; Kathy Miller and 2 grandchildren of Nebraska; his brothers, John (Anita) Homan of Tacoma, Washington; Joe (Tammy) Homan of Bismarck; and Paul Homan of Fargo; his sisters, Jane (Joe) Hertel of Mandan; and Mary Grenfell of St. Louis, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Ann Homan of Bismarck. A ceremony to celebrate his life will take place at his beloved Als Market in Olalla, WA on Sunday, June 19th. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to send any memorials to the staff and nurses that helped care for him in his time of need. The family would like to thank hospital staff at the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center in Longmont, CO, St. Anthonys Hospital in Gig Harbor, WA and the care givers at the Franciscan Hospice House for their care and dedication.
