Dorothy Ellen Cooper
July 25th, 1922 - August 27th, 2012
July 25, 1922 – August 27, 2012, now in the presence of the Lord Jesus. Dorothy was born in San Diego, Ca and was raised primarily by her Aunt Mattie and Uncle Roy Horton. She graduated from San Diego Hi School in 1941. She married Lorren Opie Cooper on January 14, 1942. Lorren and Dorothy had five children. Karen Tuell (deceased), Sharen Rasmussen (Don) of Puyallup, Laurie Mazzuca (John) of University Place, Lorren Cooper Jr. (Debbie) of Dumas, TX and Arlene Cooper (deceased). Dorothy and Lorren had 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. After raising their children they were blessed to live in Arizona for 20 years and met many wonderful snow birds like themselves. In those years they traveled around the United States and Canada visiting friends and relatives; participating in building project, fishing trips and helping others wherever it was needed. Together, they enjoyed a sense of adventure and a spirit of companionship. Eventually the two returned to Lorren’s hometown of Yakima, WA, in 2000 to be near Lorren’s brothers; Lorren passed away on January 16. 2008. He was greatly missed by Mom and his children, grandchildren and great grand children. Mother enjoyed reading a variety of literature and especially loved reading her yearly chronological Bible. She also studied the native fauna where ever they traveled as well as the many varieties of birds…a favorite possession was her bird song clock! She was a wealth of knowledge, which had her breeze through crossword puzzles, (often in INK). She was also a wonderful seamstress and spent countless hours sewing outfits for herself and children. In later years she sewed beautiful items for all her grandchildren. She created handcrafts which she lovingly gave to family and friends as gifts which were appreciated by all. Her greatest joy was taking care of Dad during their 66 years together. She was a shy and unassuming lady and let Dad do most of the talking. She was a great listener and was always interested in what her family and friends were up to. We will miss her quiet support. A memorial service will be held for Mom Saturday, September 8 11:00 a.m.at The Neighborhood Church, 2802 Bridgeport Way West University Place, Wa 98466. A special thanks to Franciscan Hospice for their loving care and support.
