Carolyn Joan Sandoval
June 8th, 1937 - October 29th, 2013
None Carolyn Joan Sandoval Carolyn Joan Sandoval was born June 8, 1937 in Talco Texas to George C. and Lois A. (Balliew) Elliott. She passed away on October 29, 2013 at Providence St. Peter's hospital in Olympia, WA surrounded by family. She had moved to Washington to be near family in recovering from a stroke earlier in the year. Often referring to herself as a child bride, Carolyn married her lifelong partner Ernesto (Mac) Sandoval on June 3, 1955, after graduating from the Eunice High School (NM) in the same year. In 1966 they moved their small family to Northglenn, CO where she and her husband raised their 3 children, and lived until the last 6 months of her life. Carolyn worked as a Facilities manager for Frontier Airlines and later as a partner in Optic Designs, located in downtown Denver. 'She was very intelligent and had a big heart. ' as quoted by Dale Powers, minister of the Thornton Church of Christ where she was a member for 47 years. She and Mac made many trips to Mexico volunteering for VOSH, VER, and the Lion's Club in the effort to give prescription eyeglasses to those in need. She was an avid traveler, and had a great sense of humor. Extremely artsy, she was always into creative endeavors of one sort or another to include pottery, sewing, crocheting, fabric embellishment, card making, and glass slumping. Everything she did had a bit of sparkle to it – reflective of her personality. Carolyn was also musical and encouraged her children and grandchildren in these endeavors. Getting people together and sharing food and fun was important to Carolyn. She loved to laugh and enjoyed gathering her tribe about her like for the traditional Christmas Eve dinner where there was always a spread of delicious Mexican food and a flow of friends and family. Playing cards and Texas 42 dominoes was all about spending time with loved ones. She had a strong sense of self, and believed in others, often supporting and encouraging them when they doubted themselves. Carolyn lived life with gusto and style. She will be missed, but a piece of her is with all who spent time around her. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ernest Sandoval, her sister Linda Elliott, sister-in-law Carolyn Elliott, her three children and their spouses Liz Sandoval (Reece), Mark Sandoval (Poppy), and Matt Sandoval (Angie), her 4 grandchildren Nicholas, Liz, Grace, and Juliette, 1 great grandchild Jalen, and extended family Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lois Elliot, and her brother Glenn Elliott In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial donations be made to Thornton Church of Christ; 8780 McElwain Blvd.; Thornton, CO 80229.
