Myrtle H. Schwagler
March 21st, 1914 - December 29th, 2012
Myrtle H. Schwagler Myrtle H. Schwagler crossed over on Saturday, December 29, 2012 with her family present. Myrtle’s journey began on March 21, 1914 in New Salem, North Dakota. She was the youngest of four born to Anna Marie and Felix Conrath. She married Albert Schwagler in October 1933 in North Dakota. They migrated out west, first stopping for a year in Idaho and then finally settling in Olympia. Their early days in Olympia were marked by working in the Oyster Canary, owning a service station, and fishing at Summit Lake. They began their family in 1940 with the birth of their first child, Carolyn. They went on to have two more children, Albert “Jerry,” and David. They raised their family between a farm on Woodard Bay Road and on the bay in Boston Harbor. They owned the first store in Gull Harbor for many years. After her children were raised, Myrtle went to work for the state as a Medical Adjudicator until her retirement. After retirement, she spent much of her time hanging out with her grandchildren. She was a huge presence in her their lives, sharing her faith and wisdom, helping to guide and to shape them. An avid Mariner’s fan, she never missed an opportunity to share her passion by taking one of her grandchildren with her to the King Dome. Her home was the popular weekend spot for the grandchildren growing up. Myrtle was curious about and fascinated by just about everything. She was able to feed much of this by her love for reading and learning. She also had a passion for traveling. She visited such places as Spain, Germany, Australia, and the South Pacific. When she moved in with her daughter, Carolyn, they went on to make many road trips around the United States. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her son, David; and her two brothers and sister. She is survived by daughter Carolyn (Olympia), son A. Jerry and wife Jackie (Port Angeles); nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:6 Please leave memories of Myrtle or condolences for the family in the Guestbook below.
