Michael Wayne Joyal passed away May 19, 2016 surrounded by family and friends in Tacoma, WA. Michael was born in Springfield, MA on October 13, 1948 but was raised in Tacoma. He graduated from Mt. Tahoma High School in June 1966. Michael worked for the Dept. of Defense for over 35 years as a Quality Assurance Specialist until he retired in July 2006. Once retired, he and his wife, Laurel, of 41 years, began traveling the U.S. Some of their favorite spots were the National Parks, seeing at least 3 dozen of them over the next 10 years. Lake Chelan and Palm Springs were his favorite spots and he and Laurel frequented both yearly. Michael loved his family and was constantly surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He loved to watch his grandkids play sports, especially baseball and fast pitch, and sat on many a bench over the years, rooting them on. He is survived by his wife - Laurel; children - Michael (Alana) Joyal, Nikol Cartledge, Bryan (Melissa) Joyal, Michael (Megan) Liefson, Mark Liefson, Matthew Liefson; brothers, Ronald (Marilyn) Joyal, Richard (Cathy) Joyal; sisters, Regina (Hugh) Lakin, Donna Joyal; grandchildren - Nicolas, Grace, Riley, Joseph and numerous extended family and friends. Visitation to be held May 23 from 5-8 p.m. at Edwards Memorial Center, 3005 Bridgeport Way West, UP. A Celebration of life will be held at 1002 Fairway Drive, Fircrest, WA, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Franciscan Hospice House.
