No visitation Howard “Dick” Slachter Howard “Dick” Slachter, 72, of Shelton, died August 8, 2007. He was born February 1, 1935 to Joseph Richard and Ruth Ann (Conover) Slachter in Sparrows Point, Maryland. On March 21, 1996 he married the former Joan Horton, who survives. Prior to settling in Shelton, Dick lived in Lake Havasu, Arizona and Puyallup. He was a gourmet cook, crafted wood furniture and loved karaoke. Dick was a lifelong member of the Eagle’s and a member of the American Legion. In addition to his wife, Joan, Dick is survived by son, Douglas Slachter (Mel); daughters, Mrs. Shannon Linker, Mrs. Cheryl Owens, and Mrs. Shelly Darrah; step-children, Leslie Tripp Boyle, Jo Marie Barnhill, and Wayne Dixon; also numerous grandchildren.
