George W. Smith Mr. Fix it George W. Smith, 67, passed away on November 21, 2008 at Riverside Nursing Home in Centralia. He was born April 19, 1941 to William H. and Rebecca J. (Ewing) Smith in Denver, CO. He lived most of his life in Richland, WA. and attended Richland schools, Columbia Community College, and graduated from Washington State University with a major in Forestry. At 16 years of age, he fought forest fires and eventually was hired by Washington State Department of Natural Resources. He retired after 30 years and 3 months. He worked several part time jobs after that. He was employed by Harbor Wholesale for 3 years. George was in the Washington State National Guard for 6 years starting in Aberdeen and ending in Olympia. He was a member of the United Protestant Church in Richland. His interests and activities included Alpha Zeta Fraternity, Order of De Molay, Society of American Foresters, Boy Scouts, Sea Explorer Ship 453, gardening, and Caret Cancer Prevention Study. On July 23, 1966, George married Diann Marsh in Hoquiam. They met at the Washington Department of Natural Resources in Montesano. They had two children; son, David Smith (Giovana) and daughter, Diann Lewallen (Teddy); three grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, and Rebecca; brothers, Robert, Ted, Ed, and Don Smith; also numerous nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the Masonic Center, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater followed by a reception at 303 ‘N’ Street S.E, Tumwater.
