Edward H. Matzen
March 25th, 1945 - February 26th, 2018
Edward H. Matzen, 72, passed away February 26, 2018 in Olympia, Washington. He was born March 25, 1945 to Fred and Agnes (Otten) Matzen in San Francisco, California. Ed was a 1962 graduate of Washington High School in San Francisco. He served in the Army National Guard, working on the power for the Field Hospital Unit. Professionally, he was a cable splicer with AT&T in California, from which he retired in 1994. He married Karen E. Henderson in San Francisco in 1965, and they had three children together. She passed away in 2003. For the last 13 years, he shared his life with Marie Green, her daughter, Lori, and granddaughter, Kim, in the Olympia area. Ed loved life, and enjoyed meeting people, telling stories, and exploring. He was a good craftsman and mechanic; if something was broken, you wanted Ed around to fix it. He loved woodworking projects, drawing, fishing, and gardening. He is survived by his sons, Greg (Alison) Matzen of Olympia, and Ken Matzen of Concord, California; daughter, Renee Matzen of Olympia; grandchildren, Taylor, Chase, Audrey, and Rylan; brother, Richard Matzen of Olympia; sister, Edith Clarke of Roseville, California; and special companion, Marie Green and her family.
