Sharon Laverne (Darnell) Shaffer, 51, of Lakewood, Washington, passed away at St. Clare Hospital attended by her sister, Marie on April 15, 2015 at 2:30am (always the night owl). Sharon was born to Margaret Frances O’Leary and Frank Jesse Darnell (who preceded her in death) on January 30, 1964 in Augsburg, Germany. Her father was in the Army, so Sharon lived in many locations, including Oklahoma, Texas, Pennsylvania, finally settling in Washington State. She went to school first in Edmonds, WA and then moved to Sumner, WA, graduating from Sumner Sr. High School. She also attended Pierce College and later in life, Clover Park Vocational School. She worked initially as an Administrative Assistant and then was a Homemaker. Sharon had many passions, including: music, drawing, painting, gardening, camping and reading. She loved science fiction and fantasy movies and books. Some of her happiest times were living out the fantasy through participation in SCA activities. Sharon also loved to cook and was and excellent baker. She would frequently make meals or bake items to share with friends and family. One of her most recent passions was motorcycles. She didn’t have one of her own, but she loved to ride and was a member of the Spanaway Abate Chapter. Most of all Sharon loved her family, her son, her friends and her cat. Sharon is survived by her son, Iain LeBlanc of Spanaway, WA; her sister, Marie Olson of Auburn, WA; her brothers Larry Darnell of White City, Or and Paul Darnell of Gansevoort, NY; as well as many Aunts, cousins, one Uncle and her cat, Bastet. Her family is deeply saddened by her death. There will be a Memorial Service this Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 2pm at the Edline-Yahn Covington Funeral Chapel in Kent, WA.
