Elaine Szedlak

Elaine Szedlak Elaine, 66, passed away January 19, 2013 in Olympia, Washington. She was born September 28, 1946 in Los Angeles, California to Ethel and Stephen Szedlak. Elaine graduated from high school in Columbus, Ohio. In 1968, she received her Bachelor’s Degree from Georgetown College, Georgetown, Kentucky and, in 1975, earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio. Over the years, Elaine lived in Cincinnati; Twin Falls, Idaho; Eugene, Oregon; Bellingham, Washington; and Olympia. Her professional career included social work, book retail, and library assistant, most recently at the Olympia branch of the Timberland Regional Library. Elaine, had a wry sense of humor, was an empathetic listener and a loyal friend. She loved books, music, movies, photography, tea, her cats, taking walks, and the sea coast. She was a self-taught artist who did fine pencil drawings and water colors. She was a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society, and was always in tune to the weather. She is survived by her sister, Ilona (Mike) Ormsby of Brookville, Indiana; and many friends in Olympia and Guilford, Connecticut. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles. Memorial donations may be made to Feline Friends in Shelton, Washington, or the Timberland Regional Library.
