Dennis Leroy Helseth
January 1st, 1941 - May 23rd, 2008
Dennis Leroy Helseth was born in Seattle, WA on October 18, 1941. He lost his battle with cancer on May 23rd, 2008. Denny graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1959 and later PLU with a Bachelors degree in business. He is survived by his wife Susan, sons Troy Helseth (Kim, Tyler & Joshua) and Peter Helseth (Jennifer), step-daughters Jill D’Olivo (Doug, Kevin, & Kate), Vicki Torgerson (Jon, Erik, & Taylor), brother Lynn Helseth (Berenice), Uncle Wally Helseth (Ellie), and Aunt Edith Wilkerson. Denny was a wonderful husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He spent many hours in Y Indian guides, coaching soccer and baseball, and officiating soccer games. He was involved with the PTA and enjoyed volunteering for carnivals and fundraising events. Denny spent many hours on the sidelines cheering on his kids and grandkids at their various activities. He was a man of many trades including berry picking checker, Army, USAF, was a partner with Charles Sigmund in H. D. Campbell, owned NW Knitting, limousine driver, and ended his career at Steilacoom High School as a Business and Marketing teacher. Denny had a passion for music and sang with the Normana Male Chorus. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church for 35 years and sang with the choir. At age 50 he took up the sport of tennis and was a member of the Lakewood Racquet Club. He had a love of gourmet cooking, and enjoyed participating in a dinner club. Denny’s life was an adventure; he enjoyed life to the fullest, always surrounded by those that he loved. Denny was an eagle scout to the end. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 3:30pm at Christ Lutheran Church (8211 112th St, SW, Lakewood). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ Lutheran Memorial Fund. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial Center 253-566-1008
