John Raymond Engel

John R. Engel, age 75, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2017 of Lewy Body Dementia. He was born in Ellsworth, WI to Lawrence and Irene Engel. He was the second of four children. John attended Bellarmine and Wilson High School, and graduated in 1959. He then attended University of Washington, graduating in 1966. On July 1st, 1961, he married the love of his life, Marian James. Together, they raised two daughters. John was self-employed with Service Master, and later, Engels Interior Services. He spent his last twenty years working at Mutual of Enumclaw, retiring as Vice President of Claims in 2006. He loved the outdoors waterskiing, snow skiing, and hiking. Most of all, he loved being with his family and friends. He was his grandkids #1 fan, known as Papa-Razzi at all their sports games. John was a kind, humble, smart , and loving man with a great sense of humor. He always took the time to be present with those who needed him. He is survived by his beloved wife Marian, of 55 years, brother Larry (Verla) Engel, sister Patrice (Bob) Bruzas, daughters Julie (Chris) Thomson, Angie (Aaron) Schmidt and four grandchildren, Hailey and Jake Thomson, and AJ and Johnny Schmidt. A celebration of life will be held Friday March 24th from 1pm to 5pm at Canterwood Golf and Country Club in Gig Harbor.
