Funeral Alternatives of Washington - Tumwater
Gary W. Ufer
May 6th, 1941 - June 1st, 2008
Gary Ufer passed on peacefully, at home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born in Centralia, WA to William Ufer and Lola (Willis) Ufer. He was raised in West Seattle, where one of his community activities proudly included becoming an Eagle Scout.Gary’s career was in heavy equipment sales and service, particularly related to the timber and construction industries. After retirement, he began another career by founding a company involved in the brokerage and exportation of geoducks, oysters, and clams. Leisure activities focused on his love of the outdoors, especially skiing, tennis, golf, and boating the waters of the Pacific Northwest. He considered Maui, HI his “second” home and looked forward each year to being a golf shot link marshal for the Mercedes PGA hosted at Kapalua, Maui. He was a member of the Gyros, Valley Athletic Club, the Olympia Country and Golf Club, the Lahaina Yacht Club, and the Washington Athletic Club. Gary was preceded in death by his father William Ufer and mother Lola Ufer. He is survived by his son Eric Ufer (wife Stacey), daughter Tawnya Conradi and daughter Stephanie Ross (husband Doug); six grandchildren: Brian and Bradley Conradi, Kacey Bernard, Isaac, Sabrina, and Sarah Ufer, his sister Gloria Dyson and two nephews. He is also survived by his life partner, Sandra Ford Schenkar and her children Alex and Adrienne Schenkar. Gary touched the lives of many who knew him: his easy warmth, kindness and gentle loving spirit will remain his legacy. The family would like to thank all of Gary’s friends for their loving support; he deeply cherished these true friendships. We would also like to thank the numerous nurses and doctors who cared for and comforted Gary over the years, especially Dr. Michael Boyd, Dr. Jacqueline Vuky, and Providence Sound Home Care and Hospice. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary’s name to the Institute at Virginia Mason Foundation, PO Box 1930, Seattle, Washington 98111. A celebration of life will be held at the Olympia Country and Golf Club on Saturday, June 28th from 11am to 3pm. You may leave memories and condolences by clicking on "View Guestbook" below:
