Dorothy Anne Ward
January 25th, 1938 - March 20th, 2008
Dorothy Anne Ward Dorothy Anne Ward was freed from her earthly body on the first day of spring, March 20, 2008. She was born Dorothy Anne Davidson on January 25, 1938 in San Mateo, California to Frank Calvin and Blanche Allegra (Shaver) Davidson. She and her family moved to the Puyallup area shortly thereafter where Dorothy was a “yell” leader at Puyallup High School. She graduated from PHS in June1956 and in August married Mervin Lee Ward. A few years later they moved to Olympia to establish Ward Farms, Inc. with Mervin’s parents. She worked the farm for 15 years as trimming shed manager; strawberry field row-boss; and corn, pumpkin, and cucumber peddler (all the while raising strong-willed farm children.) In 1976 she started a new life, enrolling in beauty school and then working as a beautician in Olympia for 30 years. In 1979 she married Gary Ward (yes, she became Dorothy Ward-Ward) and they were married until 1986. Dorothy loved Jesus, her family, friends, clients, the beach, Mt. Rainier, lilacs, butterflies, and baseball. Her free spirit and youthful zest for life was always felt by those around her. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Frank Cal Davidson, and step-son, David Ward. She is survived by her brother, Robert C. Nichols of Puyallup, four children: Wes Ward of Spokane; Shelly Kalenius of Olympia (Steve Kalenius); Wendy Sullivan of Vinita, Oklahoma (Larry Jones); Angie Ward of Olympia (Mark Medalen); and step-son Seth Ward of Boise (Sherry). She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren Michael Betschart, Sarah Howe (Jeff), Jennifer Adams, Nicole Shaw, Mallorie Rich, Heather Shaw-Morris, Summer Sullivan, Sean Ward, Shayne Ward, Gavin Quinlivan, Jackson Smith, Nash Ward, Ryland Smith; and three great-grandchildren Ashton Howe, and Regan & Landon Betschart. In lieu of flowers the family suggests you make donations to the Bread and Roses Guesthouse in Olympia (360) 754-4588.
