Helen Eileen Brady
September 19th, 1924 - April 22nd, 2015
Helen Eileen Stanfield Brady (Eileen), daughter of Guy and Nelle Reeves Stanfield, was born in Christopher, a small town in Southern Illinois (Franklin County) on September 19, 1924. She passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, in Tacoma, Washington. In December 1942, after graduation from Christopher High School and business courses at Lockyear’s Business College in Evansville, Indiana, Eileen took the train to Washington, D.C. to work for the Navy Department. In March 1946, Eileen went to Germany and worked for 3½ years for the U.S. Forces of Occupation with the Army Counter Intelligence Corps in Frankfurt and Munich. On February 22, 1952, she married Jack Denton Brady of Amarillo, Texas. They were blessed with two children, Richard and Janis. After Jack died, Eileen and the kids settled in Lubbock, Texas, where she resumed her federal government career working for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Her last 11 years before retiring in 1987 were with HUD in Washington, D.C. After retiring, Eileen hit the road for seven years in a small RV, traveling coast to coast more than once. Her favorite book was William Least Heat Moon’s Blue Highways. After traveling, she spent three great years in Ruidoso, New Mexico with her good friend Bobbie Milburn, and then settled in Granbury, Texas, to be close to Janis and her children. Her last move was in 2013, when she and Richard drove to Tacoma. Preceding Eileen in death were her parents; her husband; sister Nadine Stanfield Finley; brother Carl Reeves Stanfield; nephew William James Finley, and sister-in-law Esther Stanfield. Eileen is survived by her daughter, Janis Eileen Kloster, Ft. Worth, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Nelwyn Brady, Tacoma, Washington; brother Earl Wayne Stanfield, Santa Barbara, California; grandson Matthew Berry Parker and wife Heidi Potton and daughter, Hazel Nicole, Ft. Collins, Colorado; and granddaughter Mallory Brady Parker, Dallas, Texas. Eileen is also survived by her much-loved in-laws (Jerry and Sharon Ponton, Billy and Sue Daniel, and Carlene Stanfield) and nephews and nieces. Eileen’s instructions are that there be no memorial service until her remains can be buried next to Jack in Amarillo. The family requests no flowers, and that any gifts in her honor be made to the American Legion or a Wounded Warriors organization in your community.
