Iva Mae Neilson

Iva Mae Neilson, 82, passed away October 22, 2016 in Mossyrock, Washington, her home the last 36 years. She was born at home September 14, 1934 to Everett Herbert and Opal Mae (Nichol) McClurg in Logan, Kansas. She graduated from Logan High School in 1953, and worked as a telephone operator for AT&T. On February 12, 1960, she married Gloyd Wesley Neilson in Kent, Washington. Over the years, Iva lived in Logan, Kansas; Tacoma, Washington; Kent, Washington; Philipsburg, Kansas, Ethel, Washington; and Mossyrock, Washington. She made good friends wherever she put down roots. Iva was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various church callings, including Relief Society President, Primary President, teacher, and temple worker for two years. She also served in her community of Logan, Kansas. She was a mother to her own children and many others. Iva loved gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, doing genealogy, taking walks, playing with grandkids, and teaching them grandma school. She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for her apple cobbler, cinnamon rolls, and breads. She also loved to can vegetables and fruits, her plum jam being a family favorite. She created memorable family holiday dinners. Iva is survived by her husband Gloyd Neilson of Mossyrock; sons, Paul Neilson (Bobbi) of Mossyrock, Timothy Neilson of Onalaska, Washington, and Michael Neilson (Claudia) of Mossyrock; daughters, Toni Hansen (Jeff) of Onalaska, Kay Greer (Steve) of Kaysville, Utah, and Marcia Cobb (David) of Dexter, Michigan; 22 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and sisters, Leona Nix of Idaho, and Wanda Burker of Utah.
