Albert John Vargo
August 23rd, 1917 - February 14th, 2011
Albert was born in Youngstown Ohio. His parents Louis and Maria Vargo were Hungarian immigrants. He is the last survivor of four children. Madeline Thomas, sister; and twin brothers Louis and Steve. He graduated from high school in Youngstown and later joined the US Navy, and served in WWII in the South Pacific arena as an airplane mechanic. He later served 20 years as a reservist. He married Yvonne Beveridge Westerman and had one daughter, Alice Rebecca. He had four grandchildren, Tracy of Fairbanks AK, Heidi of Lakebay WA, Aaron of Carnation WA, and Corey of Two Rivers WI. He had 9 great-grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters. Albert retired from the Boeing Co after almost 30 years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and golfing. After being divorced in 1972, he met and married Georgianna Delvin in 1981.Together they enjoyed motorcycling, touring in their motor home, exercising at the gym, cross-country skiing, swimming, golf, fishing , spending time with their dogs, feeding the birds and visiting with friends and family in Sisters, Oregon. Georgie as she was known to friends and family, extended Al’s family with her 3 children, Mari-Anne Yerterian, Kathy Reith, son Chris Jahn and grandson, Mark Yerterian. Due to failing health he sold his home in Sisters, Oregon in March of 2010, moving to Lakebay WA to live with his daughter Alice, her husband Dennis and his granddaughter Heidi. He enjoyed sunny days on their deck, going out to eat at area restaurants, fishing and crabbing in Puget Sound. Before his passing he was in the care of the wonderful nurses, Social Workers, and caregivers of Franciscan Hospice House. Mari-Anne would like her remembrances of Albert to be summed up in these two quotes by unknown authors: " Kindness is the greatest wisdom." " Its nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice." Daddy was loved so much by his family and will be a great loss to all of his friends. Daddy has Gone Fishing.
