Myra Deborah Krawcheck was born in Charleston, South Carolina on February 3, 1937 to Jack Krawcheck and Esther (Bielsky) Krawcheck. Myra passed away peacefully on December 23, 2016 in Lacey, Washington. Myra’s family lived on Colonial Street in Charleston and owned Jack Krawcheck Clothier stores. Myra attended school at Ashley Hall in Charleston. She had many fond memories of her family, friends and activities in and around Charleston, and summer camp in New York State. Myra married Robert Read and they soon made their way to San Francisco, California, where they raised their three children. Following their divorce, Myra continued to provide a loving home for her children and supported them in their many activities. Myra was a very talented cook and prepared delicious dishes, such as southern fried chicken and red rice, much to the delight of her family and lucky guests. She always spoke lovingly of Agnes “Aggie” Jenkins, who taught her to cook and did many special things for Myra when she was young. After her children had grown, Myra enjoyed traveling with her friend Ed Grambergue, until his death. Later, she and her friend Jack Ploscowe ran a singles group and enjoyed many cultural activities in San Francisco until his death. In 2005, Myra moved to Panorama Retirement Community in Lacey, Washington, where she met the love of her life, David O’Kane. They took many trips together, and Myra became a proud member of the Lacey Rotary Club along with David O. Myra was always very stylish and loved to look her best. She enjoyed listening to classical music, watching movies, and going out to eat. She kept her southern charm and accent to the end. Myra will be greatly missed. Myra was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Esther; brother, Saul Krawcheck; sister, Claire Nussbaum; and son, Michael Read. She is survived by her dear friend, David O’Kane; brother, Leonard Krawcheck (Towney); daughter, Fay Kagan (Bruce); son, David Read (Cathi); daughter-in-law, Mary Kulla; grandsons, Jonah Kagan, Ezra Kagan, Ben Read, and Adam Read; and many nieces and nephews. Myra’s family would like to thank the staff at Panorama Assisted Living, who were so kind to her, and to the staff of Synergy Homecare and Providence Hospice, who helped to make her last days more comfortable and allowed her to remain in her own apartment. Please leave memories of Myra or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
