Charles Albert Rogers was born on July 27, 1938 in the Azores, Portugal. He and his family immigrated to Fresno, California in 1947. Chuck graduated from Fresno High School, Westmont College and Fuller Seminary, earning a doctorate degree in Christian Education. While at Westmont, Chuck began the Swordsmen quartet, in which he sang for 55 years. He met Bonnie Reeves and they married in 196l. Chuck began church ministry in 1962 in Los Angeles. He continued Christian Education and music throughout California and Portland, Oregon and concluded his ministry career at Westwood Baptist in Olympia, Washington. Chuck was gifted in teaching, organization, administration and writing curriculum. He taught administration and teaching of adults with the International Center for Learning, and was a Christian education professor at Western Seminary, Portland. From 1997 to 2013, he worked for the State of Washington Labor and Industries as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. Chuck enjoyed singing in choirs and quartets, playing the banjo, basketball, and racquetball, river rafting, boating, watching professional sports, and especially attending all of his boys’ basketball and soccer games. He enjoyed playing table games and spending time at Hartstene Island with family and friends. Chuck died of pancreatic cancer and blessedly went to meet his Savior on February 6, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie; three sons, Philip Charles of Boise, Idaho, Daniel Andrew of Modesto, California, and Timothy Benjamin of Olympia; and seven grandchildren.
