John "Jack" Shaw

John “Jack” Shaw, 93, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Olympia, Washington, on March 28, 2018. Jack was born on September 15, 1924, in Anoka, Minnesota, the son of John and Anne Shaw. He was raised in Anoka and Blooming Prairie. He attended Blooming Prairie High School with the class of 1944 before leaving before graduation in 1943 to join the U.S. Army/Air Force, training to be a Hydraulic Specialist. He then served as a Flight Crew Chief/Jump Master, dropping supplies to troops in North Africa and Sicily. Following his honorable discharge in November 1945, he returned to Blooming Prairie and graduated from high school with the class of 1946. Jack met Jean E. Hein while working at John Shaw Drug Store. They were married August 14, 1951, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple moved to Anoka and Jack attended barber school in Minneapolis. In 1955, Jack opened Shaw Barber Shop in Blooming Prairie and continued as the town barber for 54 years. Jack was a member of the First Lutheran Church and American Legion. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling and visiting with his friends at The Bakery. He will be dearly missed by his many friends and family. Jack is survived by his wife, Jean Shaw of Olympia, Washington; his children, Sandy (Brian) Kerrigan of Olympia, and Marty (Robin) of Lafayette, Colorado; five grandchildren, Rosalie, Katherine, Jason, Joshua and Jennifer; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, William Shaw of Anoka and David (Joanne) Shaw of Castro Valley, California.
