Cherri Denise Davis
November 20th, 1956 - November 22nd, 2012
Cherri was born November 20, 1956 in Greenwood, Mississippi and went home to be with the Lord on November 22, 2012. She is survived by her mother, Sarah Evans, her sisters Vickie (Jon) Kehn and Keva Al-Qabandi, her children, Manzelle Evans and Michelle Evans, her grandchildren Cherrie and Noah Evans, her nephews Hoody Al-Qabandi and Bryce Kehn, her nieces Sarah Al-Qabandi and Chloe Kehn and many friends and brothers and sisters in Christ. Cherri started her life in Mississippi, spent some time in Alaska and settled here in Tacoma. She was a mother first and loved her children and grandchildren more than anything. With almost 30 years as a nurse, she touched many lives and formed many attachments. The last eight years of her working life were spent at Orchard Park where she was part of a larger family whom she also loved and who loved her as well. Her absence is felt and she will never be forgotten. She completed her bucket list with her vacation to Hawaii and the final item, sky diving with her BFF! She lived the last week of her life at the Fransiscan Hospice House in Tacoma, WA where she was very lovingly cared for. Special thanks to all of the staff at Hospice House who were so wonderful, not only to Cherri, but all of her visitors as well. Prior to her move to Hospice House Cherri was at Manor Care of Tacoma for a little over a month where she was also well cared for and formed attachments to many of the staff whom she thought were warm and caring people. Thank you to all of you – you know who you are – who took such good care of her. While she was at home under Hospice care her children were her primary care givers – thank you so much Michelle and Manzelle for your loving care of your mother which allowed her to be able to stay at home as long as she did. Cherri had three wishes she shared with her close friends in the last months of her life and those were: 1)She wanted to be comfortable and not suffer undue pain during the dying process. Hospice staff handled this very well for her and her last hours were very peaceful and pain free. 2)The second wish had to do with how she wanted people to treat her. She wanted to have people with her whenever possible and for someone to be with her when it seemed that death would come at any time. She had many faithful visitors and had people with her most of her waking hours – thank you to all of you who were such faithful visitors. Special thanks to Teri Clark and Kathi Deary who were with her for the last several hours of her life here on earth. She wanted her hand held, to be talked to and to have others by her side praying for her - she had many family members and friends who did so for/with her. She had pictures of her beloved grandchildren and children with her and was cared for with love and kindness, as was her wish. 3)The last wish was for what she wanted her loved ones to know and that was many things: *That family and friends know that she loved them. *To be forgiven for the times she hurt her family, friends and others. *For her family, friends and others to know that she forgave them for whenever they may have hurt her in her life. *For her family and friends to know that she did not fear death itself as it was a new beginning for her with the Lord she knew personally and loved so much. *For all of her family members to make peace with each other. *For her family and friends to think about what she was like before she became seriously ill and remember her that way after her death. *For her family, friends and caregivers to respect her wishes even if they do not agree with them. *For memories of her life to give her family and friends joy and not sorrow. *For her ashes to be kept by her sister with those of her father and aunt until her mother’s death when they could all be scattered together at one of their favorite places, Klaylock.
