Edwards Memorial Funeral Homes - University Place
Kathryn Illene Taylor
July 8th, 1951 - August 13th, 2010
Kate was born to Homer Lee Kiehl and Ettie Bell (Kelley) Kiehl on 7/8/51 in Garden City, Kansas. She was the eldest of four children, and is survived by two brothers, Kieth and Kevin. Her dear sister Karla passed away in 2007. Kate and family moved to Washington State in 1964, and she attended school in the South Kitsap school district. She was active in choir and always loved music. Kate attended Central Washington University as a music major. She married the love of her life, Glenn Taylor, in 1979. Kate was an active gardener, loved camping and the outdoors, and was always a gracious hostess who made every one feel welcome in her home. Many family and friends were honored to enjoy her custom made cakes at their weddings and birthdays. She was a voracious reader, politically active her entire life, and always eager to engage in debate. She was also a deeply spiritual person, but never adhered to one faith: she felt moved to draw the best from many traditions, finding peace in the commonality of love and faith. Her children and grandchildren were a source of joy to her, and the loss of her leaves us filled with sadness. She will be sincerely missed. Kate passed away at home on 8/13/10 in Tacoma, WA, in the company of her cherished husband and daughters. She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Glenn; her children Libya (Joseph) Vogt and Rachel (Joel) Caudill; 3 beloved grandchildren Emma, Paige and Charlie; and numerous extended family members and friends. Memorial Service to be held at 3:30pm Saturday August 21, 2010 at the Lutheran Church of Christ the King, 1710 85th St E, Tacoma, WA. Please bring a donation of canned food for the Fish Food Bank in Kate’s name. Flowers may be sent in care of Rachel Caudill , or donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org. Peaceful journey, mama. We love you.
