Wallace Rudolph Holmquist
November 25th, 1924 - January 18th, 2014
Wally passed away peacefully on Saturday January 18th surrounded by his immediate family. He was born on November 25th 1924 in Dawson, MN to mother Hannah and his father Oscar. Growing up on a farm with a large family, he was preceded in death by his nine brothers and sisters. He joined the army at a young age and continued a career in the military serving his country proudly in WWII, Korea and the Vietnam War. He met his late wife Gabrielle while stationed in Europe they had four children. After retiring from the army as a Sergeant first class in 1967 Wally moved his family to the Tacoma area and worked for the city of Tacoma and later for the State of Washington. A skilled mechanic and man that could build nearly anything with his hands, he enjoyed fishing, carpentry, and working on several of his many cars he would repair and sell after retiring. He took pride on his military career and worked hard to provide for his family. Wally was known to posses a very strong personality and liked to hang out with his buddies and kick back a few at his local watering holes. He is survived by his daughter Helen, his son Eric, his daughter Linda; his grandchildren, Stephanie, Sean, John, Desiree, Wayne and Robert and his great grandchildren; Apryll, Abrielle, and Harry IV. He will be missed, he lived a long full life, and most importantly he will get to see his late daughter Christine again. A special thank you from the family goes to Desiree and Harry as they became Wallys caretaker these past few years. Funeral arrangement will be held at 11:15 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington at 18600 SE 240th Street.
