Jeanette Lucille Smotherman
September 18th, 1935 - December 27th, 2009
Jeannie (also known to many as Grandma Jean and to her nieces and nephews as Nettie) was born on September 18, 1935 in Morton WA to Arnold and Norma Core and passed away on December 27, 2009 in Tacoma WA at the age of 74. Jeannie was best known for her cooking at the U&I Cafe and baking at Knapp’s restaurant, both located in Tacoma. Jeannie loved camping with family and roasting hot dogs over the fire. She loved sewing, quilting, clam digging and could build or repair anything better then most. She loved the woods and water and was a resident on the Key Peninsula for 25 years. She loved to party with friends and family and will be missed by all. Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Beth, her brother Alan and the father of her children and good friend – Howard. Jeannie is survived by her 6 children: Jack (Merle) of Shelton, Jim (Etta) of Tacoma, Nanci (Gary) Wells of Shelton, Debbie of Tacoma, Lisa (Eldon) Wiltsey of Tacoma, Dawna (Chaon) Bovee of Tacoma, her sisters Louise (Wessie) and Judy and also her longtime companion (and best friend) Doug Running of Lakebay, 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Please join us for a celebration of Jeannie’s life at the VFW Post 969 at 3510 McKinley Ave in Tacoma from 1pm – 4pm on January 9, 2010.
