Kathleen Rose Smith

She was born April 24, 1954, to George Charles and Rose Marie (Setzer) Robison in Renton, Washington. She was the only sister in a family with seven brothers who certainly tested her resilience. Kathy lived in Issaquah, Washington, where she graduated from Issaquah High School. She married Michael Kim Smith on June 13, 1970, in Renton. She also joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1970, and served in many callings. Kathy spent the next 30+ years raising six children, five sons and one daughter. As the kids got older, Kathy worked as a media technician for the Issaquah School District (1995-1998). In 1998, Kim and Kathy moved to Cinebar, Washington, where they built a new home in the forest. After seeing her last child finally move out of the house, she decided to go back to school to earn her Bachelor’s Degree (Washington State University, 2008) and Master’s Degree in Education (Lesley University). She was a substitute teacher in various school districts in Lewis County. Kathy spent many years and countless hours volunteering with her church, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and many other organizations. During her time of more than 40 years with the Boy Scouts, she earned her Silver Beaver Award, and served on staff for Wood Badge training. She helped her children earn the Gold Award in Girl Scouts, and many Eagle ranks in Boy Scouts. She was a counselor for an extensive list of merit badges. She also served as an adult leader at her church girls’ camps for 24 years. She loved working with youth. Those who got to know her loved her and she loved them. Nature was a special place for Kathy. Her knowledge of the outdoors, orienteering, edible plants, and general camp comforts made her a huge asset to any outing. She loved to hike, camp, canoe, snow shoe, paraglide, and especially enjoyed going to the beach. Two invitations she would never turn down were a trip to the beach or a meal with fresh crab. Kathy is survived by her husband, Kim; children, Randy (Ronda), Mike, David (Codi), Christa (Eric) Mellin, Jason (Emily), and Joel (Julie); 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; father, George (Cindy) Robison; mother, Rose Marie Robison; and brothers, Jerry, Bill (Willow), Matt (Elise), Dale, Ed (Lori), Jim, and Damon. She was predeceased by grandparents, William Francis Robison (1901-1974), Madalein Alma Kidd (1911-1988), John Setzer (1902-1978), and Julianna Ekes (1907-1979). A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church, 2195 Jackson Hwy, Chehalis, WA 98532. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Alpha Cemetery, 3363 Centralia Alpha Rd., Onalaska, WA 98570. Please leave condolences or share memories and photos on the Tribute Wall to the left.
