Martha Yvonne Bliss

Martha Yvonne Bliss passed away of cancer on May 16, 2023, in Centralia, Washington, her home of 12 years. She was born January 7, 1948, to Lena Maria Slater in Los Angeles, California. Over the years, she also resided in Rochester, Washington; Olympia, Washington; and California. Martha graduated from California’s Monte Vista High School in 1966. She married Richard H. Bliss on May 17, 1969, in California. She was a homemaker raising kids, waitress at Egans, cashier at Bodes, and CNA at Catholic Community Services. Martha will be remembered for being stubborn, sassy, always speaking her mind, and proud of her Indian heritage as a member of the Miscalero Apache Tribe. She loved to travel to the beach, was very involved with the Indian Elders gatherings, and spending time with her family. She was at various times a member of the Catholic Church and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by her husband, Richard H. Bliss of Centralia; sons, Richard J. Bliss (Tammy) of Chehalis, Washington, and Jason Bliss (Debbie) of Rochester; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother, Michael Avalos of Marysville, Washington. She was predeceased by her mother; son, Stephen Bliss; great-grandson, Nolan Bliss. Per Martha’s wishes, no service will be held.
