With great sadness, we announce the passing of Margaret Sampson, age 88. She was welcomed into heaven on March 8, 2024. Margaret, also known as Margie by some, was deeply loved by family and friends. She will be remembered by all as having such a kind, welcoming, loving heart. She is survived by her husband, sister, brothers, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was born on October 18, 1935, to Toni and Bob Braddock. She grew up in the small town of Kahlotus, Washington, and enjoyed a very happy childhood. Some fondest memories included playing with her friends and family in Kahlotus and Spokane, summers spent swimming and helping lifeguard at the town pool, going on fishing trips, marching in the school band, and going to ballgames with her dad. After graduating from Kahlotus High School in 1953, Margaret attended Kinman Business University in Spokane. She worked at the Department of Employment Security as supervisor of the stenography pool in Olympia. She then met and married the love of her life, LeRoy Sampson, and moved to the Tenino area. They were together for almost 60 years, since March 21, 1964. Margaret took the greatest pride and joy in being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was caring, compassionate, and full of love for all her family. She was happiest when she was with them, whether it was spending time with LeRoy on the back deck, hosting family for holidays, going to annual family camp, watching grandkids in activities, or going on adventures with her kids. Margaret had a strong, joyful spirit who got great pleasure from the simple joys of life. She enjoyed dancing, music, reading, watching the Mariners, kayaking, traveling, making pottery, and visiting with friends and family. She was a devoted member of St. Peter Mission in Tenino. She was an active member who enjoyed volunteering to help her church community in a variety of ways, including being a catechism teacher. Margaret’s beautiful smile, laughter and devotion to friends and family will be missed but not forgotten. She was and will always be the loving, spiritual guardian of her family. One of Margaret’s paramount joys was supporting disadvantaged children. In remembrance of her and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Unbound by clicking HERE, or ChildFund by clicking HERE. There will be a funeral mass on Friday, March 22, 2024, 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, followed by graveside services at Grand Mound Cemetery and a reception hosted at the church. Please leave condolences or share memories and photos on the Tribute Wall to the left.
