Lawrence Earl Roberts, Jr. 91, of Punta Gorda, Fl died Friday, June 14, 2014 in Punta Gorda. He was born to the late Lawrence Earl and Elsie (nee: Duckworth) Roberts Sr., on December 9, 1921 in Gassaway, West Virginia. He served honorably during WWII in the United States Navy, which he was very much proud of. He received his Bachelors Degree from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Worked most of his life for DuPont , before retiring and moving to Punta Gorda in 1982 from Wilmington, DE with his wife Ruth, who preceded in him in death on July 13, 1999. Being active in the community and an avid golfer, he was a long time member of the Burnt Store Country Club of Punta Gorda; also known as the Twin Isles Country Club.Preceded in death are his parents, wife, Ruth, and sister, Nedra Roberts Carroll.He is survived by his son, Thomas Gerald Roberts, of Warwick, New York; Many Cousins, nephews, nieces, neighbors, dear friends, and golfing buddies. Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 9400 Indian Springs Cemetery Road, Punta Gorda, FL , the son Thomas will receive family and friends from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow with Navy honors. Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home , Cemetery, and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. 941-639-1171
