Frederick Lee Stewart
November 20th, 1934 - August 11th, 2018
Frederick Lee Stewart, age 83, a resident of Olympia, Washington, was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on August 11, 2018, with support from his loving family and health caregivers from Roo Lan Health Care and Providence Sound Homecare and Hospice. Fred, child of Clarice Vincent Haines and Roy Henderson Stewart, was born in Salem, Oregon on November 20, 1934, and was raised in the Lake Oswego area until the age of 10, when the family moved to Juneau, Alaska. It was in Juneau where he met the love of his life, Beda Christine Clauson, when they were in high school. They were married in Beda’s sorority house at Oregon State University on December 15, 1956 and have shared adventures since. Fred served as Private 2nd Class in the U.S. Army (1954-56), and attended university on the GI Bill upon discharge. He was a proud University of Washington graduate, earning his BA in Political Science and his JD from UW School of Law. He practiced both general and criminal law in Yakima, Washington and Colville, Washington. Additionally, he was honored to serve as a Superior Court Judge for 12 years. Fred is remembered as being a servant leader, shaped by his Christian faith. He was kind, witty, caring, generous, and loyal. He lived and loved well, sharing his hearty laugh with friends and family. He loved learning, reading, and studying in preparation for the next new adventure. He was a skier, pilot, sailor, world traveler, and explorer. Sailing with Beda on a 42’ Southern Cross to Alaska, and offshore to New Zealand via Mexico and the South Pacific Islands was a dream come true. Fred is survived by his elder brother, Jon Stewart (Ginny); his beloved wife of nearly 62 years, Beda Stewart; children, Tammy (John) Schultz, Ron Stewart, Kirstin (Roger) Tibbot; grandchildren, Theresa (Ben) Shell, Gregory (Rosanna) Schultz, Michael (Heather) Schultz, Bradley (Kali) Schultz and Tiffany Tibbot, Teagen Tibbot, and Taiten Tibbot. He is also survived by six great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Xavier, Lily, Joel, Ruby, and Juneau. A burial service will be held at the Tahoma National Cemetery, officiated by his grandson, Pastor Greg Schultz. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center or Providence Sound Homecare and Hospice.
