Edwards Memorial Funeral Homes - University Place
Anthony Michael Giangrasso
July 14th, 1938 - July 20th, 2016
Anthony (Tony) Michael Giangrasso passed away the afternoon of July 20, 2016 in Tacoma, Wa, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. He is finally at peace and having great conversations with his mother (Lucy), father (Leonard) and brother (Lenny,Jr) who preceded him in death. Tony was the son of Lucy (Marzano) Giangrasso and Leonard Anthony Giangrasso. He was born on July 14, 1938. He grew up in New York City in an Italian neighborhood called Greenwhich Village. He would often tell many stories about growing up in New York. He missed his family on the east coast but left New York because he longed to see other parts of our country. As soon as he was old enough he enlisted in the Army. His military career took him to Fort Lewis in Tacoma, WA where he met the love of his life, Francis (Fran) Doria. Tony not only fell deeply in love with Fran; he fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and so decided to put down his roots in Washington and asked Fran to be his wife in 1960. Fran and Tony would have celebrated 56 years of marriage on October 2nd. Tony worked at Craftsman Press for over 30 years, retiring in 1995 to spend time enjoying his love of cars, kite building, hiking, piano, saxophone and his grandchildren. Tony is survived by his spouse, Fran, his daughters, LuJeana (Murphy), Chrisanne (Plueger), his son, Donald and 7 grandchildren (Austin, Alex, Anna, Mitchell, Matthew, Bobby and Patrick), and 1 great grandson, Wyatt. The Funeral/Mass will be on Friday, July 29 at 10:30 at St. Ritas Catholic Church, 1403 S Ainsworth Ave, Tacoma WA 98405. Followed by a luncheon at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimers Association in his memory.
