Iluminada Serrano Iluminada Serrano, 94, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010. She was born Nov. 29, 1915, in Puerto Rico, the daughter of Horatio and Susana (nee Bertucci) Perez. Iluminada came to New York at 17 years old. She worked as a dress maker, then as a nurse working for C.I. State Hospital in New York, where she retired from. Iluminada married Anthony, Aug. 28, 1937. In 1974, they moved from Long Island, N.Y., to Florida. Iluminada loved to cook, sew and garden, where she grew some special avocados and mangos. Iluminada is survived by her loving family, including her daughter, Evelyn (Joseph) Sorrentino; sister, Anne (Phil) Hobbes; her grandchildren, Louis (Celeste) Sorrentino, Mary Ann (William) Farren, Susan (Jeff) Vargo, Joseph Paul, Lewshane Hall, Chuck (Debbie) and Mary Lou Sorrentino, Danielle and Chad Sorrentino, and Laura Mayo; great-grandchildren, Dawson, Joseph Anthony, Walker, Julia, Maylin, Emma Mae, Jeffrey, Laynie and Antonio; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony, in 1999. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., with a funeral service following promptly after, Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 9400 Indian Springs Road, Punta Gorda, Fla. Iluminada will be laid to rest with her husband Anthony at Charlotte Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home.
