Virginia Layfield "Aunt Ginny" Virginia was born Aug.6, 1930 at Walter Reed Hospital in WA DC to William Henry Layfield and Mary Caroline Layfield. She passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 28, 2014, at the age of 83 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma. Her family was from the Maryland area, mostly near the coast. She grew up in the DC and Maryland area and moved to Arlington, VA in 1950, with her family. Virginia never married and never had any children. She stayed with her parents and helped care for them until their deaths. Both her mother and father are buried in the Arlington National Cemetery. She remained in Arlington and later took care of her mother's sister, Elizabeth (Liz) Frances Arnold until her death in 1990. In 1994, she left all her friends and family in VA and moved to Roy, WA to be near her sister Rose M. Loveless and Rose's family. Virginia started working three years before graduating high school; she worked for Woolworths as a store clerk for 35 years and retired to help take care of her mother. She later also worked at Donlvey's Dress Shop from 1984 - 1988 and in the kitchen at Washington-Lee High School from 1988 - 1994. As she got older she eventually lost most of her hearing and sight it became difficult for her to do many of the things she use to love, like crafts, crochet, traveling to visit family or going out as much as she would like. She never learned to drive and usually road the bus or the subway in VA or road with family or friends. Later in Roy she had to depend on friends to take her places and missed the mass transit of the city. She loved to have family stay with her when she was in Virginia and would take them sightseeing all around WA DC or VA. She also loved to spend time with all her nieces and nephews and the Whitesell children that lived next door. She was very generous to the children buying them gifts or taking them places. The nieces and nephews that lived out of state always looked forward to visits or surprise boxes of gifts from Aunt Ginny. In Roy, Virginia volunteered at the Roy Food Bank and was active in the Roy Community Church where she attended regularly. She loved to talk to people and loved to stay busy. She loved to play bingo when she could get help playing. She was preceded in death by her brother Joseph William Layfield of Bandon, OR. She is survived by an older brother John J. Arnold of Bayonet Point, Florida and her sister Rose Marie Loveless of Roy, WA. She also leaves a large number of nieces and nephews and their families who will all miss her. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Roy Fire Department or the Roy Food Bank in her name. Please share any stories you have and we can print and save them or share during her service. Service will take place March 29th at 1:00pm at the Roy Community Church in Roy, WA. Edwards Memorial will handle transferring her to the cemetery for burial the following week at Fir Lane Cemetery in Spanaway, WA, in one of the Loveless Family lots. We release her to Gods care until we see her again some day. Rest in peace Aunt Ginny.
