Mildred Elizabeth Merritt

Mildred Elizabeth Merritt, 96, of North Port, FL formerly of Bridgeport, CT went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 4, 2014 under the care of Tidewell Hospice. She was born to the late Levi Thaxter and Mary Elizabeth (nee; Bond) Barney, on December 5, 1917 in Boston, Massachusetts. She was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church and an ordained elder in North Port, Grandmothers Club of Harbor Cove, and Nu Pi Alpha Sorority. She was the wife of the late Robert Benjamin Merritt; loving mother of Robert (Marsha) Merritt, Barbara( partner Sue Peck) Mason, Judith (Tom) Allen, Judith (John) Sharp, daughter in law Lola Merritt; loving sister to Joseph (Margaret) Barney, Richard (Mary Ann) Barney, and Alice Moore; grandmother to 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, son Bruce Merritt, sisters Ethel Lawrence and Edith Barney. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Mildred's memory Memorial Service of her life will be Celebrated Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 5550 South Sumter Blvd, North Port, FL 34287.
