Our beloved Shirley Jane Cope was born on March 19th, 1935 in Tacoma, Washington. She went to Lincoln High School, and had a successful career as an Accounting Technician for over twenty years. Shirley eventually retired from the Fort Lewis Commissary control office and continued to care for her family. Preceded in death by her parents Robert Leslie and Evelyn Owens, as well as her dearest son Jerry Thomas Murphy Jr. She is survived by her brother Donald Leslie, sons Kenneth Edward Murphy (Ken), James Douglas Murphy (Doug), William Eugene Cope Jr. (Bill), and Michael Leon Cope (Mike). Grandchildren Nichole Murphy, Chad Murphy, Tyler Zimmerman, Kelli Arai, and Ryan Zimmerman. Shirley has three great-grandchildren. She was a true matriarch of the family, and everyones favorite mom. Shirley enjoyed reading romance novels, going to bingo, watching her boys play softball, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on television, and was very talented in crocheting. She loved her boys and her family more than life itself. She recently celebrated her 82nd birthday, and although she was in the hospital, she was surrounded by family and friends. On March 30th, 2017 Shirley peacefully departed this life after battling cancer. Let us celebrate this extraordinary woman by remembering all of the wonderful memories she has left behind. There will be a memorial service on Saturday April 8th, 2017 at 11:00am. It will be held at the Lakeview Chapel @ 4606 108th St SW Lakewood, WA 98499.
