Joseph Prentice

Tribute Joseph Michael Prentice died peacefully at home in the early hours of Friday, February 25, 2022. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 28, 1957, to James and Dorothy (Figurski) Prentice and was the oldest of four children. Joe was a quiet soul, but was well known for his keen intellect, dry humor and caring nature. He had a deep love for his family. He also loved outdoor activities (hiking, camping, fishing, photography and gardening) in his adopted state of Colorado, after moving to Longmont in 1966. But most of all, Joe was an avid bird watcher from a very young age. He could identify birds not only by sight, but also by their calls. Joe was a very talented journalist and will be greatly missed by his current and former co-workers. He also was blessed to teach journalism for several years at his alma mater, the University of Colorado. Left to remember Joe are his mother Dorothy; sister Patricia Rotter and her daughters Holly Rotter (her fiancé Anthony Kuhnlein) and Samantha Rotter; brother Kevin Prentice (his wife Monique) and his children Heather Prentice (her husband David Giordani and their daughter Emerson); Mathew Prentice (his wife Michelle and their sons Theodore and Thomas); Kristina Prentice; and Kevin’s stepdaughters Erika and Lizzy. Joe was also loved by 14 aunts and uncles (and their spouses), 33 first cousins, and many other family members too numerous to count. He was preceded in death by his father James; brother David; brother-in-law Kurt Rotter; grandparents Stanley and Helen Figurski and John and Jean Prentice; Great Aunt Madge and Uncle John Craig; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Services for Joe will be held on March 22 nd , 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont, followed by an 11:30 a.m. reception at Carroll-Lewellen Funeral Home .
