Lloyd James Boyd
December 17th, 1929 - July 13th, 2017
Lloyd James Boyd, 87 died Thursday, July 13, 2017 at his home in Tacoma, Washington. He was born December 17, 1929 in Otego, New York. Growing up on a farm, Lloyd took a pass at pro baseball as an infielder in the Boston Red Sox minor league system. Unfortunately, Lloyd was only 16, and when discovered, was politely invited to try again the following season. The US Army got in the way of those plans, with his enlistment on his 17th birthday. Lloyd retired after 22 years as a medic, seeing combat tours in both Korea and Vietnam. After the military, Lloyd worked towards becoming a professional pilot, but chronic illness prevented him following this path. His most recent passion was as a volunteer at his local food bank, where he spent nine years greeting clients. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 50 years, Johanna, and his son Sean, both of Tacoma. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, James. There will be no funeral or memorial service. The family thanks the many friends and family who have helped during this difficult period.
