Howard "Howie" Nelson
April 7th, 1943 - August 21st, 2021
Howard “Howie” Nelson, 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2021, in Lacey, Washington. Howie was born in Seattle on April 7, 1943. He graduated from Ballard High School and went on to the University of Washington, graduating with a BA in Geography in 1967. He married Christy Sheldrup on June 13, 1964, and they moved to Olympia in 1972. Howie worked for the Washington State Department of Transportation as a photogrammetrist, retiring in 1993. He loved the outdoors, hiking, camping, and was an avid skier. He was passionate about the weather and was considered to be the neighborhood weatherman. He also loved travel, especially cruises. But his favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends at Crescent Bar. He is survived by his loving wife, Christy; son, Paul (Jill) Nelson of Snoqualmie, Washington; daughter, Cheryl of Colorado Springs; granddaughters, Olivia and Kayley; and cousins. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Please leave condolences or share memories and photos on the Tribute Wall to the left.
