Dorothy E. Rooney

Dorothy E. Rooney (nee Sine), beloved mother and wife, 82, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015. She was born on June 6, 1932 in Frederick County, VA to Raymond and Alberta Sine. Dorothy was a graduate of Gore High School. Through the years she enjoyed various different jobs. Among those were assisting her first husband, Harold Ruff, with his construction company, assistant food director at Fork Union Military Academy, working in the accounting office of Joseph R. Harris, and owning and operating the Corner Store in Strasburg, VA. On her retirement she moved to Port Charlotte, FL in 1987 with her second husband, Leroy Connelly. She met her current husband, William, 12 years ago through mutual friends at a yard sale in Port Charlotte, FL. She enjoyed great trips with him to see Alaska, China and Greece. Dorothy loved putting together jigsaw puzzles, doing word games, sewing, crocheting, taking care of her houseplants and shopping. She enjoyed being outside in the Florida sunshine and traveling. She was well known for preparing large delicious dinners for friends and family. She was a lifelong member of the Moose Club. She will be greatly missed by her loving and devoted husband of 12 years, William of Port Charlotte, FL; sons, Thomas Ruff of Rockville, MD, Dennis Ruff of Easton, MD, and Jeffery Ruff of Easton; daughter, Susan Ruff of Sarasota, FL; brothers, John Sine of Mountain Falls, VA and Claude Sine of Strasburg, VA; sisters, Ernestine Riley of Winchester, VA and June Smith of Stephens City, VA; grandchildren Shelby Clark (Brendon) of Queenstown, MD, Jeremy Ruff of Easton, MD, Laura Ruff of Easton, Katherine Ruff of Easton, Emily Ruff of Easton, Lance Corporal Steven Ruff USMC of Easton, and Samantha Ruff of Sarasota, FL; great-grandchild, James Ruff of Easton; her husband's children, Linda (Tom), Jack, Debra, Jeannie (Dave), Butch, Alex (Diane), William (Karla).
