Donna Fay Shinn

Donna Symonds Shinn of Kirkland, Washington passed away peacefully September 28th, 2017, she was 78 years old. She was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts on January 13th 1939 to Dana and Alice (Oliver) Symonds. The majority of her childhood was spent in San Diego. She later moved to the Seattle area, where she met and married the love of her life, Richard G. Shinn. They moved to Oakdale Minnesota, Livingston Montana, Hudson Colorado then returned to the Seattle area to be close to her family. Donna cherished her entire family, often telling stories of growing up with all of her Aunts, Uncles and cousins and as a fisherman’s daughter. She was also very proud of her Portuguese heritage, leaving behind “Recipes from Nana’s Kitchen,” a family cookbook she spent months writing (with contributions from others), full of her family photos and recipes. A legacy that will be handed down to all of her future generations. Donna is survived by her 5 children, Linda Avallone (Bob), Deanna Napolitano, Steven Napolitano, Kevin Napolitano (Ngan Ha), and Dawn McKenna (Rod), 7 grandchildren, Steven, Matthew, Jaclyn, Austin, Alicia, Breeana, and Stephanie. Her sister, Alice Vlcek, Brother-in Law, Jerry Askew and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. Donna is predeceased by her two best friends, loving husband Richard (2014) and sister Carol (2012). At Donna’s request there will be no services. Her family will celebrate her life at her requested resting spot - a small beach near San Diego Bay. A special place to her, where she used to swim in the summer with her mother, aunts, sisters and cousins. "My heart is full and my life has been full. I chose to remember all my happiness as a Mother and Grandmother. I choose to remember my life and the people who gave me happiness and laughter.
