John Carroll Weldon

John Carroll Weldon died peacefully at home in Gig Harbor, WA on October 19, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was 83 years old. John was born to George Landis and Anna Laura (Alvey) Weldon on August 25, 1934 in Owensboro, KY. He graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton. He later obtained a Master's Degree from the University of Southern California. He retired from a successful 40 year career at the Aerospace Corporation, where he made many outstanding contributions to space systems crucial to United States national security. He met the love of his life, Louise Bernuy, in the Spring of 1962 and they were married in 1963. They raised their four daughters, Danielle (Franco), Anne (Weldon), Julia (Weldon) and Sara (Snyder) in Palos Verdes Estates, CA, later moving to the Pacific Northwest in 1990. John's many varied interests included reading the Great Books of the Western World, Listening to Dixieland jazz music, following classic cars, discussing politics, studying history, learning all he could about nutrition and researching genealogy. His strong Catholic faith was a guiding force in his life. He loved his family to the ends of the earth, including his 7 grandchildren: Reyne Mullins, Allie Weldon Christopher Franco, Gabrielle Franco, Casey Ryan, Daniel Schmidt and Andrew Schmidt. His generous and compassionate heart will be missed by all. There will be a viewing on Friday 10/27/17 from 5-8 PM at Edwards Funeral Home 3005 Bridgeport Way West, University Place, WA. There will be a funeral Mass on Saturday 10/28/17 at 1 PM at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7112 South 12th Street, Tacoma, WA.
