John Kenneth McLaughlin
November 22nd, 1944 - October 27th, 2017
John (Jack) Kenneth McLaughlin was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on November 22, 1944 to Helen and Leo McLaughlin. He was their third child and was born while Leo was serving in Europe during WWII. He passed on October 27, 2017, accompanied by his family after a lengthy battle with Cancer and Pulmonary Fibrosis. When Jack was 5 his family, including aunts and uncles caravanned across the country from Providence, Rhode Island (where they were living at the time) to Renton, Washington to join Jack’s grandparents. In 1962 Jack joined the Air Force and, after basic and training, was stationed in the Philippines. He served in the Air Force Security Services, intercepting enemy codes and passing them on using a teletype machine. Jack was discharged in 1966. He started working at Boeing as a computer operator while he went to the ITT Instituteto get an associate’s degree. Upon graduation, he began his career as a computer programmer. In 1969 Jack married Wendy Carkonen. While together, they had a daughter Kelli and a son Kevin. In 1978 Jack married Sue Reynolds and, together they had a daughter Casey (Vreeken) and a son Robblie. Jack’s career took many turns, but it started and ended in IT. Jack worked as a programmer at Lockheed Shipyard, Virginia Mason Hospital and Safeco Insurance, as a manager at Safeco and IT manager at Jorgensen Steel. He opened a print shop, joined a management consulting firm and, finally returned to management in the IT department of Pemco Insurance. Jack is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sue; 4 children… Kelli, Kevin, Casey and Robbie; 9 grandchildren… Marcus, Alexis, Andrea, Jazmin, Madison, Jackson, Jeffrey, Emily and David; one great grandson... Milo; and, 3 siblings…Beth Rubio, Bill McLaughlin and Dennis McLaughlin. Jack loved being with his family, golfing, traveling, watching and attending sporting events and going to work.
