Clair Candler, 91, passed away 10/29/2017 in University Place. He retired as an analytical chemist from Occidental Chemical in 1989 with 44 years of service. Clair graduated from Stadium High School and U.P.S. He married Joanne Goodrick in 1949 and they made their home in Tacoma. Clair was heavily involved with Boy Scouts, coached dozens of basketball and baseball kids’ teams, Junior Achievement, and Big Brothers program. He was an avid duck hunter and fly fisherman. He enjoyed 23 years of sailing local waters and the San Juans. He served as Commodore of Tacoma Yacht Club, running a ‘tight ship.’ After Clair and Jo retired in 1990, they enjoyed 25 years living in Port Townsend, and then began ‘land-yachting’, spending winters in Arizona. Jo predeceased Clair (9/15/2017) in death and is survived by son, Scott, of Lakewood and daughter, Christine Wittstock, of Tacoma, 5 grandchildren and 2 greatgrandchildren. We would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Hearthside Manor for the care and loving devotion that they provided for Clair. No service will be held.
