Byron Eugene Gilman 7/27/1936-12/04/2017 Byron was born July 27, 1936 in Tacoma, WA. He grew up in a large catholic family of 13 children. He passed away peacefully at home in the loving arms of his wife Judy on December 4, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents Mary and Rollin Gilman, brothers Danny, Tony, Dick, Joe, Bill, and Leo, sisters Evelyn and Barb. He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Judy, his children Vince, Barney (Renee), Toni, Kenny (Denise), and Curt (Lisa), along with his pride and joy his beloved grandchildren Ryan (Krystalyn), Amanda (Scott), Felicia (Adam), Summer (Lloyd), Alyssa (Connor), Brianna (Cameron), Cameron, Haley, Liberty, and K.J. and his great-grandchildren Raelynn, Aubree, Easton, Avaree, Ava, and Colby, as well as brothers and sisters Jim, Dave, Bernie (Kathy), and Mary (Ken). He will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends. The Gilman family lived in Tacoma and Vashon Island over the years. Byron served in the Navy at an early age, and then worked at Globe Ticket for the majority of his life until his retirement in 1998. In his early years, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, and camping, as well as games, cards, and crossword puzzles. But by far, his greatest joy was watching his children and later his grandchildren at their sporting, church, and school events. It was a rare occurrence that he missed one as these were times he really looked forward to. He especially enjoyed when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren came for visits. Some of our favorite times with Byron were our large family gatherings full of laughs and good times. Byron was loved by many for his “Gilman” humor, many stories, and infectious laughter. He was always ready with a joke or a quick-witted come back. He was lovingly known as “Pops” by his kids’ friends as they all considered him as a second father, and he considered them all “his kids” as well. He will be deeply missed by everyone that knew him. Rest easy Pops. At Byron’s request, there will be no services at this time. The family will have a celebration of his life at a later date.
