Lyle Hammond

Lyle Hammond passed away from COPD on January 30, 2024, in Lacey, Washington. He was born November 25, 1945, to Earl Hammond and Paula Groves Hammond in Modesto, California. He also resided on Bainbridge Island, Washington (1996-2013). Lyle graduated from Palo Alto High School, Palo Alto, California. He married Sandra Ellen Crane on May 28, 1978, in Newport, Oregon. He was a carpenter by trade, a professional fighter, and an avid outdoorsman. Lyle was powerful, fierce, funny, a loyal family man and good-hearted. He was a true force of nature, kind and strong in equal measure. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Sandra E. Hammond; son, Daniel K. Hammond of University Place, Washington; daughters, Kayla M. Hammond of Everett, Washington, Jessica A. Fearon of Vancouver, Washington, Stacey Estey of Columbus, Ohio, and Kristi McLaughlin of Watsonville, California; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren (and one on the way); and brother, Robert Chapman. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Dennis McIlhenie; and sister, Aleta Dobbs. A memorial and celebration of life is planned for Saturday, April 20, 2024, a date Lyle would truly appreciate, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. at Fay Bainbridge Park.
